Sailboats Fall Exhibition by Hands On!

Sailboats

How does a sailboat work the wind?

Sailboats Exhibition by Hands On!With Sailboats, visitors experiment with wind and air pressure using three-wheeled sailboats on a long table backed by a bank of fans. They can adjust the boom of the boat to set the angle of the sail and capture the wind, and can also adjust the direction of the wind by rotating the louvers in front of the fans. Visitors may start their boat's journey from any point on the table, discovering in the process that the angle of the sail and the angle of attack have sizeable effects on the speed and direction of the boat. This experience works well as a stand-alone experience and also can support staff-led programs.
